Things didn’t go exactly according to plan today. Our flight took us from Sacramento to London with a 2 hour stop in Atlanta – or so we thought. As we approached Atlanta, the pilot came on to tell us that a severe thunder storm was diverting lots of planes to alternate airports, ours included. So, we got a “bonus” stop in lovely Montgomery, Alabama where we were to be refueled and sent back to Atlanta. Now, I’m pretty sure that Alabama is right in the heart of NASCAR country, so one would
expect a pit crew to come running out to meet the plane, top off the tank and have us screaming back down the runway to Atlanta (and our connecting flight). Not so! We sat on the tarmac with 3 or 4 other planes for 3 hours waiting to be refueled. Of course that caused us to miss our connecting flight to London, so we were on the phone with our travel agent who stayed late to work with Delta to get us put on standby on a later flight – way to go Liz (CWT Vacations, Gold River)! You are the best! We were 2 of 3 people to make that connecting flight and that was only because it was delayed while they made some repairs. Had we not made that flight, we would have spent another 24 hours in Atlanta. Atlanta’s a nice city, but not one we planned on going to on this trip.

So, we are now in London - a bit jetlagged, but not too worse for wear. We made it through Heathrow, navigated our way to our hotel via the “Tube” (that’s London’s subway for you Yankees) and are all checked into our hotel and looking up places to get some fish & chips…
